When they were fully awake, they saw His glory.

In Luke’s gospel today, Jesus selects Peter, James, and John and invites them to a mountaintop to pray. For many months, Jesus has been attempting to prepare His followers for the last phase of His mission. It is time for Him to go up to Jerusalem. His “hour” is about to come. However, His followers do not “get it.” They have been following Jesus like sleepwalkers.

While Jesus was praying, sleep overcame the tired apostles, until they were dazzled awake by the transfigured sight of Jesus and the mysterious voice of God instructing them to listen to my chosen son....When they were fully awake, they saw His glory.

During this second week of Lent, let us remind ourselves that we miss so much when our minds are asleep. During this second week of Lent, we acknowledge that minds fall asleep through prejudice, shutting out people, ideas, and actions. Sometimes we fall asleep through mental laziness, when we refuse to face questions and doubts. We fall asleep through love of ease. Comfort becomes a defense mechanism in avoiding the self-examination that is an important part of Christian life.

We will see the glory of God revealed at Easter, only if we are awake. Only when we are fully awake and listening to Him.

Father Ricardo

We the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, declare it to be our mission to live in faithful relationship with the Father and through the power of the Holy Spirit, give witness and living testimony to the mission of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

We ask that Mary, the Mother of our Lord and our Mother, who aided the beginnings of the Church by her prayers, may now intercede with her Son for each of us...helping us to grow in faith, hope, and love.

We as Catholic Christians, are called to make visible Christs presence among His people. We commit ourselves to journey through life striving to become more like Jesus in our words and deeds, to be His disciples.

We exist not for ourselves, but for the sake of others, generating new life and hope. In His name and united in his belief, we reach out to others.

We become the heart of Jesus to love others, His ears to listen to others, His mouth to teach as He did, and His feet to spread His Good News as we journey through life.

As we proclaim our love by ministering to and serving others, we build community. And as one, our parish community worships and celebrates. through many, we are one body because we share in the One Bread and One Cup.

WELCOME!   Our Lady of Fatima parish always welcomes new members. Please stop by the rectory or call 973-764-4457 to register as soon as possible.
